Description of key information

Hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) is not harmful to sediment organisms under conditions tested.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The toxicity of hexyl D-glucoside (CAS: 54549-24-5) towards sediment organisms was investigated in one short-term study with the endobenthic marine amphipod Corophium volutator (Andersen, 2003). The study was performed according to the “OSPARCOM guideline (1995): Sediment bioassay using an amphipod Corophium sp.”. At test termination after 10 days a LC50 of > 1547 mg/kg dw and a NOEC of 698 mg/kg sediment dw resulted (Andersen, 2003). In conclusion hexyl D-glucoside is not harmful to sediment organisms under conditions tested. Long-term data should not be generated because of the low log Koc (0.7 - 1.7) and the ready biodegradability of the test substance.
