In vivo

Irritant / corrosive response data:
When undiluted test material was applied to the skin, initially it appeared innocuous, but after 72 h strong irritation spreading well beyond the original site of application had developed. Two weeks after the initial applications there were dryness and sloughing of the injured skin.
When the material was diluted with dimethyl phthalate it was not irritating.

Conclusions:
Undiluted tritolyl phosphite produced somewhat delayed, but strong, flaring and prolonged primary irritation of guinea pig skin. Thus it is considered to be highly irritating.
Executive summary:

The test substance was subject to skin tests for primary irritation on guinea pigs. Undiluted it caused strong irritation in all ten animals, diluted with dimethyl phthalate it was not irritating. Based on these results, the test substance is considered to be highly irritating.
