Description of key information

A key study evaluating the toxicity of Amber Core (P-#620) to aquatic algae (Selenastrum capricornutum) is available. The 72h-EC50 and the 72h-NOECD, based on growth rate, were determined to be 12 mg/L and 1.5 mg/L, respectively.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
12 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1.5 mg/L

Additional information

One key study according to the OECD Guideline No. 201 and EEC Annex to Directive 92/69/EEC Part C Method 3, with GLP standards is available on the aquatic algae (Selenastrum capricornutum). Algal cultures exposed to five test concentrations of Amber Core plus one untreated control and one solvent control were incubated on an orbital shaker under continuous illumination at 24 +/- 1°C for 72 hours. Growth was monitored daily by measuring the absorbance of each culture at 655 nm. The following values were derived from the data: EbC50 (72h) = 5.6 mg/L, ErC50 (0 -72h) = 12 mg/L and NOEC = 1.5 mg/L. All results are based on measured concentrations. Values ranged from 82 -106% of nominal at 0 hours and 30 -53% of nominal at 72 hours.
