Additional information

Study reports in which a standardized OECD test guidelines was used are not available. However, there is sufficient information from non-standard testing methods to demonstrate that normal-alkane sub-category members exhibit ready extents and rates of biodegradability. Normal hydrocarbons found within the C7-C9 category, including octane, are known to biodegrade readily (Haines and Alexander 1974, Solano-Serena et al. 1999, Malaney and McKinney 1966, Nagato and Kondo 1977). Consequently, no further testing on biodegradation in water and sediment as well as on biodegradation in soil is requirted.
