Description of key information

The hydrolysis study of diphenyl sulphone was conducted according to the OECD guideline 111. Less than 10% was hydrolysed during 5 days at 50°C, which would correspond with a DT50 of >1 year at 25°C. Consequently diphenyl sulphone is considered hydrolytically stable.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
1 yr
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

The hydrolysis study of diphenyl sulphone was conducted by following OECD guideline 111. The preliminary test for hydrolysis of diphenyl sulphone was conducted at 50 ± 0.5°C in the dark at pH 4, 7 and 9 buffer solutions for a period of 5 days. Based on the preliminary test data generated in this study, diphenyl sulphone was found hydrolytically stable in pH 4, 7 and 9 buffers at 50 ± 0.5°C, with less than 10% degradation at each pH. These results clearly indicate that the compound diphenyl sulphone was stable over a period of 5 days at 50 ± 5°C which would indicate a DT50 of >1 year at 25°C. So an additional test did not have to be conducted.
