Description of key information

For the vapor pressure measurements of diphenyl sulphone two different gas saturation methods were applied between 323.15 and 393.15 K (50 and 120 °C) and also extrapolated to lower temperatures. The obtained results are at 323.85 K (50°C) 0.00075 Pa and at 392.25 K (120°C) 9.3649 Pa. The calculated vapor pressure at 253.15 K (–20 °C)  is 1.273 × 10-7 Pa.

Additional information

To investigate the vapour pressure two different gas saturation methods (common and automated) were applied. With the first method vapor pressure data of pure components can be experimentally determined in a temperature range from approx. 280 to 620 K at very low pressures. With the second method, two thermostated chromatographic columns are impregnated respectively, by a standard compound and the sample. An inert gas (N2) flows through these columns and strips the compounds out of each column. The combined flows then enter a cold capillary column (trap column) during a specified period of time.Once the trapped quantities of both substances are sufficient for an analysis, this capillary column is heated in order to elute the compounds, which can be detected by a gas chromatograph equipped with an FID. The obtained results are at 323.85 K (50°C) 0.00075 Pa and at 392.25 K (120°C) 9.3649 Pa. Based on the results obtained with the used methods and Antoine parameters , the calculated vapour pressure (Antoine) at 253.15 K (–20 °C) is 1.273 × 10-7Pa.
