Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Retinyl palmitate has a high calculated log Pow of 15.51 and a water solubility of < 1 mg/L and is therefore likely to adsorp to activated sludge. However, as the substance is very likely to be used by organism such as bacteria as a food source (although it is not readily biodegradable) and in addition, as the degradation products retinol and palmitic acid are also naturally occurring substances, no negative effects on sediment organisms are to be expected. Furthermore, the metabolism of retinylpalmitate is also highly regulated by the organism itself, preventing it from any possible effects due to the metabolites retinol and/or palmitic acid.

Especially under the circumstances when activated sludge us transferred to the field, retinylpalmitate will be very rapid photodegraded with a calculated half-life of only 55 min (AOPWIN 1.92).
