The acute toxicity of retinyl palmitate to aquatic invertebrates was investigated similar to the OECD guideline 202 (EWG 79/831). A solvent was used indicating a toxicicity towards Daphnia magna clearly above the limit of water solubility (EC50 35.34 mg/L) after 48 hours of exposure. Based on this result and the fact that the water solubility of retinyl palmitate is below 1 mg/L at 20°C (calculated value 5.25E-007 mg/L at 25 °C) acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates is unlikely.
