Description of key information

Key information: Boiling point (OECD 103 / EU Method A.2, DSC): decomposition at approx. 223 °C, no boiling point temperature determined. 
Disregarded study: Boiling point (OECD 103, Siwoloboff method): approx. 125.2 °C at 755 mmHg.

Additional information

The test substance decomposes at approx. 223 °C (Fox, 2012). The determination was performed according to EU Method A.2 using a Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC).

The Siwoloboff method, used in the other experiment (Rocchio, 1990) is only applicable for liquids which will not undergo any chemical reaction below their boiling point (i.e. autooxidation, degradation or any rearrangement). Taking this into account, it seems that this test method is not applicable for the test substance and the obtained boiling point (125 °C) has to be interpreted with care: it is very likely that the substance decomposed under heating (probably at the sulphur bridging bonds) into smaller product(s) and the emergence of these product(s) was registered as boiling point for the whole test substance. Finally, the result of the DSC (key study) confirms that no value for a boiling point temperature could be determined: the substance decomposes below the boiling point at approx. 223 °C.
