Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

No relevant data has been identified for isooctyl mercaptoacetate (IOTG). Existing data for 2-ethylhexyl mercaptoacetate (EHTG)

was used for covering this endpoint.

EHTG and IOTG are both C-8 esters of thioglycolic acid. In addition, both EHTG and IOTG are hydrolytically unstable and rapidly oxidize, and have as a common degradate when hydrolyzed, thioglycolic acid (TGA; CAS No. 68-11-1). In addition to TGA, the hydrolysis breakdown product for EHTG is 2-ethylhexanol (CAS No. 104-76-7), an 8-carbon alcohol. For IOTG, the hydrolysis breakdown products are TGA and iso-octanol. The iso-octanol in this case is a mixture of 8-carbon alcohols, the major isomers being methylheptanols, and dimethylhexanols. Based on the close structural similarity of EHTG and IOTG, their chemical and physical properties and behavior are expected to be similar. Melting point, boiling point, vapor pressure and water solubility values are consistent with this expectation.

The EC50 and NOEC were calculated using nominal concentrations. The results are :

The EC50 -72h was calculated to be 0,91 mg/1 and the NOEC was calculated to be 0.5 mg/L.
