Additional information

Only very little data on toxikokinetics of beryllium metal is available. Inhalation of relatively high doses of beryllium metal dust seem to slow down elimination of particulate matter from the lung.

Haley (1990) reports a Be half-life of approximated 240 d in rats after single exposure to beryllium metal dust at a concentration of 800 mg/m³ (MMAD 1.4 µm) for 50 min that lead to lung burdens of 625 µg/animal.

Finch (1991a) reports clearance half life times for the coadministered clearance marker 85Sr-FAP (fused aluminosilicate particles) of 38, 64, 112, 135 and 232 days for lung burdens of 0, 1.5, 2, 10 and 50 µg Be metal particles/rat after single exposure, respectively.
