Description of key information

In a test performed according to the OECD 201 testing Guideline, the concentrations of test item causing a 50 % and 10% reduction in growth rate of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata were estimated to be:

72h-EC10 = 6.2 µg/L (95% CI: 4.8 - 7.3 µg/L)

72h-EC50 = 13.9 µg/L (95% CI: 12.6 - 15.7 µg/L)

In a test performed also according the OECD 201 testing Guideline for an analogue (1,10-decanediyl diacrylate; 13048-34-5) of the test item with the same species, close 72h-EC10 and 72h-EC50 values were obtained (26.2 µg/L and 45 µg/L, respectively).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
13.9 µg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
6.2 µg/L

Additional information

This study was designed to determine the effects of the test item on the growth of Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata in a 72-hour test according to the OECD 201 Guideline.

Due to the viscous property of the test item tests solutions were prepared from dilutions of a saturated solution prepared using slow-stirring conditions described in the OECD 123 guideline.

The results are reported as growth rate and yield inhibitions. The concentrations that result in a 10 and 50% reduction in growth rate (72h-ErC10 and 72h-ErC50, respectively) and yield (72h-EyC10 and 72h-EyC50, respectively) were determined.
