Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The study was conducted in accordance with OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 209 and EEC Methods for the Determination of Ecotoxicity, EEC Directive 67/548 Annex vm Part C (87/302/EEC), Activated Sludge, Respiration Inhibition Test.
The EC50 (respiration inhibition) values for Coagulant 122 (solid) with activared sewage sludge has been determined as > 100 mg(total solids)/l for the 3 hours contact time.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

The oxygen consumption rates for the control, test and reference cultures after 3 hours contact time are given in Table, together with percent inhibition values.

    Culture  Concentration mg/l  O2 consumption rates mgO2/l/min  % inhibition

Control

 R1  -  0.50  -
 R2  -  0.47  -

Test

 R1  100*  0.46  5
 R2  100*  0.47  3

 Reference

 3.2  0.36  26
 10  0.24  51
 32  0.11  71

Percent inhibition is plotted against concentration in Figures 1 full document (reference culture) and the EC50 values for 3 hours contact time, derived by interpolation, are given below:

Coagulant 122 (solid):           EC50 (3 hours): > 100 mg(total solids)/1

3,5-dichlorophenol:                 EC50 (3 hours): 9.4 mg/1.

Variation in respiration rates of Controls 1 and 2: ± 3%.

The validation criteria for (i) Control culture respiration and (ii) respiration inhibition by the reference substance, were fulfilled during this study.
