Hydrolysis:

Testing for hydrolysis is waived based on following justification: according to column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, a hydrolysis study does not need to be conducted for highly insoluble substances. Zirconium dioxide is such a substance, with a water solubility of < 55 µg/L. Furthermore, according to the guidelines, the concentration of test samples should not exceed half the water solubility of the test substance. The water solubility is extremely low. An analytical method to support the hydrolysis study at this low concentration level is not available: the water solubility is smaller than the limit of detection of the analytical method. The test on the hydrolysis of the substance can therefore not be performed.
