Melting and Boiling Point
In the temperature range of
90 – 150 °C an endothermic effect could be
observed. In the temperature range of 200 – 340 °C a first exothermal
effect with a decomposition energy of -160 - -190 J/g and in the
temperature range of 340 – 500 °C a second exothermal effect with a
decomposition energy of -560 J/g could be observed.
In both DSC measurements a mass loss
after the complete run in the temperature range from room temperature to
500 °C of 45 - 47 % could be observed.

The test item has no melting point and
no boiling point under atmospheric pressure (1013 hPa) up to the
decomposition temperature of 200 °C.
Additional Measurement with
the BÜCHI apparatus:
For the verification of the DSC
measurements an additional measurement with the capillary method was
performed. Therefore three capillaries were filled with the test item up
to 0.4 cm height. The measurement was started at 25 °C. The temperature
was increased with a heating rate of 10 K/min up to a temperature of
of the BÜCHI measurement

The colour of the test item changed to light yellow.
The colour of the test item changed to light brown.
Up to a temperature of 410 °C no
melting or boiling of the test item could be observed.
Zirconium propionate has no melting point and no boiling point at atmospheric pressure (1013 hPa) up to the decomposition temperature of 200 °C.
