Description of key information

For p-isopropyphenyl isocyanate no tests on toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria are available.

Therefore, the toxicity test of the main hydrolyse product 4-isoproylaniline with the lowest EC50 value is used to draw a conclusion on toxicity to algae for the parent compound. Concerning the algal toxicity (Directive 92/69/EEC, C3) of 4-isoproylaniline for Desmodesmus subspicatus a 72 h-ErC50 of 13 mg/L for the growth rate were determined following the EU method C.3 "Algal Inhibition Test". The result relate to measured concentartions, since analytical monitoring was conducted. The corresponding NOEC and LOEC from cell number were 1.6 mg//L (n) and 3.1 mg/L (n), respectively (Bayer, 1997). Consequently the lowest EC 50 value

= 13 mg/l from hydrolysis product 4-isoproylaniline is used to draw a conclusion on toxicity to algae for the parent compound.
