Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Justification for selection of genetic toxicity endpoint
No mutagenic potential observed in in-vitro bacterial as well as mammalian mutagenicity tests.

Short description of key information:
MIPB (CAS no. 25640-78-2) showed no mutagenic potential in the Ames test (Brusick 1976).

In tests together with other solvents, no evidence of mutagenicity was found:
As part of a comprehensive testing programme including neat MIPB and MIPB in mixture, a single tier testing of MIPB in combination with other solvents (mixtures of mono- and diisopropylbiphenyl) has given no indication of a mutagenic reaction.
These tests included:
1. Salmonella typhimurium (AMES) Mammalian Microsome Plate Incorporation Study (not shown);
2. Mouse Lymphoma Forward Mutation Assay;
3. In Vitro Chromosome Aberrations in Chinese Hamster Ovary Cell (CHO).

Furthermore, DIPB (diisopropylbiphenyl), a structure-related substance, supported the findings with MIPB formulations.

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

No classification required based on negative results from the mutagenicity battery performed with MIPB and structure-related compounds.
