According to a Mackay Level I model calculation the main target compartment for 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene will be the atmosphere (99.7 %), followed by sediment (0.1 %) and soil (0.1 %). The calculated Henry’s law constant of 6950 Pa m3/mol indicates high volatility of 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene from surface waters. With a calculated Koc of 6513 l/kg, the sorption potential of 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene to soil or sediment organic matter is expected to be high (Blume scale).


The combined half-life for OH radical and O3 molecule sensitized photodegradation reactions is approximately 23 minutes. While no ready biodegradation was observed in standard tests, all-trans-1,5,9-cyclododecatriene showed good biodegradability in a test with radiolabeled test substance at low concentrations. Atmospheric OH and ozone sensitized photodegradation plus biodegradation are expected to be the predominant ways of removal from the environment while photolytical or hydrolytical degradation in surface water are expected to be of minor importance. The partition coefficient 1-octanol/water of 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene was determined as log Kow = 6.80 at 25°C, indicating significant potential for bioaccumulation.
