Additional information

The inhibition of sewage microrganisms was assessed by measuring the turbidity (optical density at 530 nm) after 16 hours of incubation of the test substance at various concentrations and plotting the results against those of a control. The test concentration corresponding to 50 percent of the control is termed as 50 percent inhibition concentration (IC50). The IC50 for inhibition to the sewege organisms after 16 hours was determined to be >1000 mg/L. A supporting Microtox TM study using 4 concentrations of the test substance resulted in a 15 minute EC50 of 2000 mg/L. The result from the sewage microrganism inhibition study (key study) is believed to be more relevant for this endpoint and is being used as the key value for the safety assessment.
