Ethylene glycol propyl ether is readily biodegradable (100% mineralisation in a BOD (APHA) test after 20 days) and mineralisation will be the dominant route of elimination in natural waters. Hydrolysis of the ether group is minimal and irrelevant when compared to biological degrdation. Testing for hydrolysis is therefore not indicated. In the atmosphere Ethylene glycol propyl ether will react with hydroxyl radicals with an elimination half-life of approx 18 hours.
