No effects up to the limit of water solubility for Daphnia magna (OECD 202 part 2)

There are no long-term aquatic invertebrate toxicity studies available for Fatty acids, C16-18, isopropyl esters (CAS No. 91031-58-2). The assessment of long-term toxicity was therefore based on studies conducted with the structurally most similar category members, for which data is available, Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18 unsaturated isobutyl esters (CAS No. 84988-79-4), 2-ethylhexyl oleate (CAS No. 26399-02-0) and isopropyl myristate (CAS No. 110-27-0). This read across approach is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Grouping of substance and read across approach. Further justification is given within the endpoint summary 6.1 and within the category justification in Section 13.
The key study conducted with Fatty acids, C16-18 and C18 unsaturated isobutyl esters (CAS No. 84988-79-4) was performed according to OECD guideline 202 part II and GLP (Wierich, 1995). The test organism Daphnia magna was exposed to the test substance in a semi-static system for 21 days, at loadings of 1 and 100 mg/L. The test solutions were prepared as water accommodated fractions (WAF). At 1 mg/L no mortality and no significant effect on reproduction was observed. At 100 mg/L reproduction was significantly increased compared to the control. Thus, the test substance had no negative effects on reproduction at the tested concentrations, and the NOELR is reported to be ≥ 100 mg/L.
The key study with isopropyl myristate (CAS No. 110-27-0) was performed according to the OECD guideline 202 part 2 (similar to OECD 211) and GLP (Wierich, 1995). The test organism Daphnia magna was exposed to the test substance in a semi-static system for 21 days, at nominal test concentrations of 1 and 100 mg/L. The substance did not have any effect on the reproduction of Daphnia magna at the tested concentrations.
Thus, based on theabove mentioned results, and due to the structural and profile similarities of the substances, as are explained with in the overall endpoint summary 6.1 it can be concluded that no toxicological long-term effects on aquatic invertebrates are expected up tothe limit ofwater solubility for Fatty acids, C16-18, isopropyl esters (CAS No. 91031-58-2).
