Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
8 May 2012
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In the preliminary screening test the substance does not ignite by a hot flame from a gas burner. The test item just melts.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

non flammable
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The substance is non-flammable based on the negative test result according to EU Method A.10. In addition, flash point determined according to EU Method A.9 (closed cup) was found to be 152.5 °C at normal pressure. Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected. The substance is not self-heating, because it is completely molten at 160 °C.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

Based on the test EU A.10, supported by the flash point determination, the substance is non-flammable.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

The substance is not self-heating, because it is a solid completely molten at 160 °C.
