Additional information

Ready biodegradability of alkyl ether sulfates has been demonstrated by a number of studies available for the category substances. The degradation rates reached in the available screening studies were >= 69 - 100%.

Different possible pathways have been proposed for the aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation of alkyl ether sulfates. The different degradation steps will lead to the formation of various intermediates that are further degraded. No persistent metabolites will be formed; all proposed pathways will all end in an ultimate degradation of alkyl ether sulfates under aerobic and anaerobic conditions.
