Additional information

Experimental data on the toxicity of TMAEE (CAS 93240-93-8) to aquatic algae are not available. Therefore, the assessment is based on read-across data for the source substance BDMAEE (CAS 3033‑62-3):

- In the GLP-compliant key study, the algae P. subcapitata was exposed to BDMAEE under static freshwater conditions for 72 hours. The test item concentrations were analytically monitored (recovery: 26% to 100% of nominal values). The effect values are based on measured concentrations. The obtained ErC50 (72 h) was determined to be 24 mg/L; the 72-h ErC10 was 5 mg/L (measured, RCC Ltd., 2008).

- The key result is supported by the findings of a further OECD guideline 201 study. In this non-GLP test P. subcapitata were exposed to the test substance under static freshwater conditions for 72 hours. The obtained ErC50 (72 h) was 23 mg/L and the 72-h ErC10 was 5.4 mg/L (nominal, Huntsman, 1997).

Based on the available read-across data, TMAEE (CAS 93240-93-8) is assessed to be with high probability acutely harmful to algae.
