First-aid measures

- General advice :    Show this safety data sheet to the doctor in attendance.

- Eye Contact :  Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water, also under the eyelids. Keep eye wide open while rinsing.

                           Consult immediately an opthalmologist.

- Skin Contact :    Wash off immediately with soap and plenty of water removing all contaminated clothes and shoes.

In case of irritation or rash, call a physician.

- Inhalation :    Move to fresh air. Oxygen or artificial respiration if needed.    If symptoms persist, call a physician.

- Ingestion :    Rinse mouth.    Do NOT induce vomiting.    If symptoms persist, call a physician.

- Protection of first-aiders :    Use personal protective equipment.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

- Suitable extinguishing media :    Use CO2, dry chemical, or foam.

- Extinguishing media which must not be used for safety reasons :    Do not use a solid water stream as it may scatter and spread fire.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

- Special exposure hazards arising from the substance or preparation itself, combustion products, resulting gases :

Heating or fire can release toxic gas.

Advice for firefighters: Specific methods:

Cool containers / tanks with water spray. In case of fire, remove exposed containers. Fire residues and contaminated fire extinguishing water must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

Precautions for fire-fighters

- Special protective equipment for fire-fighters :    Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suit.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Use personal protective equipment.    Remove all sources of ignition : heat, flames and sparks.

Ensure adequate ventilation.    Prohibit contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

Environmental precautions

Prevent entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas.    Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up

Contain spillage, and then collect with non-combustible absorbent material, (e.g. sand, earth,   diatomaceous earth, vermiculite) and place in container for disposal according to local / national regulations (see section 13).

Use clean non-sparking tools to collect absorbed material. Rinse with water and recover it for later processing

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

- Precautions for safe handling :

The product may be heated at 60 °C in the original container for maximum 5 days.

Ensure adequate ventilation.    Wear personal protective equipment.

Prohibit contact with skin, eyes and clothing.

There is a hazard associated with rags, paper or any other material used to remove spills which become soaked with product.

Avoid accumulation of these: they are to be disposed off safely after use.

Avoid static electricity build up with connection to earth.

- Prevention of fire and explosion :

Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition.

Well homogenize the product while heating to ensure a good distribution of heat and inhibitor.

Make sure of the presence of air and inhibitor in the drums.

- Hygiene measures :

Wash hands before breaks and immediately after handling the product.

When using, do not eat, drink or smoke.    Wear suitable gloves and eye/face protection.

Remove and wash contaminated clothing before re-use.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

- Technical measures/Storage conditions :

Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.

Protect from frost, heat and sunlight.    Provide a catch-tank in a bunded area.

Ensure all equipment is electrically grounded before beginning transfer operations.

  Keep at temperatures below 45°C.

- Materials to avoid :    Acids, bases, oxidizing agents, reducing agents.

- Packaging material :    Baked phenolic lined carbon steel drums.

- Unsuitable materials for containers :    Copper, iron.

- Further information :    Respect the advised storage time (6 months after delivery date).

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters

- Occupational Exposure limits :    Contains no substances with occupational exposure limit values.

Exposure controls

- Occupational exposure controls

  Engineering measures :

Apply technical measures to comply with the occupational exposure limits.

When working in confined spaces (tanks, containers, etc.), ensure that there is a supply of air suitable for breathing and wear the recommended equipment.

  Personal protective equipment :

General Information : Use personal protective equipment in good condition.

Respiratory protection : In case of insufficient ventilation, wear suitable respiratory equipment.

Eye protection : Safety glasses with side-shields. Contact lenses should not be worn when working with this chemical.

Skin and body protection : Long sleeved clothing.

Hand protection : Do not use natural rubber gloves, wear nitrile gloves. Products used with solvents : wear thick (>0.5 mm) nitrile gloves. Replace gloves immediately when torn or any change in appearance (dimension, colour, flexibility, etc) is noticed.

- Environmental exposure controls

Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system.

Stability and reactivity

Chemical stability :    Stable under recommended storage conditions.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

- Hazardous polymerisation :

Inhibitors have been added to stabilize this product.

Maintaining air in the storage containers is important to keep inhibitors active.

Conditions to avoid :    Heat, flames and sparks.

Take precautionary measures against static charges.

Incompatible materials

- Materials to avoid :    Acids, Bases, Oxidizing agents, Reducing agents.

Hazardous decomposition products

Incomplete combustion and thermolysis produces potentially toxic gases such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

- Waste from Residues/Unused Products :

Should not be released into the environment.

Dispose of in accordance with the European Directives on waste and hazardous waste.

- Contaminated packaging :

Empty containers should be taken to an approved waste handling site for recycling or disposal.

- Other information :

According to the European Waste Catalogue, Waste Codes are not product specific, but application specific.

Waste codes should be assigned by the user based on the application for which the product was used.
