study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid which decomposes before boiling

Description of key information

Boiling point: HMDTMP (4-7Na) will undergo thermal decomposition without boiling.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirement to test the boiling point of HMDTMP (4-7Na) was waived because the substance decomposes without boiling. This statement is supported by the evidence from a DSC study which demonstrates that the anhydrous form of the parent acid (HMDTMP-H) undergoes thermal decomposition from approximately 200°C. See melting point study reported in Section 4.2. Salts would be expected to undergo thermal decomposition in the same way as the parent substance.

Similarly, in a secondary source to which no reliability could be assigned, the substance as an aqueous solution was reported to have a boiling temperature of >100°C, with decomposition temperature of >200°C following the evaporation of water.
