Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

No ignition was observed. Sample melted around ignition source with some evolution of white smoke.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The substance is non flammable.
Executive summary:

The flammability was assessed using EU method A.10 (Huntingdon, ECHA RSS, 2017). In the preliminary screening test no burning was observed when in contact with an ignition source. Sample melted around ignition source with some evolution of white smoke.

Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.12 (Flammability (Contact with Water))
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Remarks on result:
no reaction with water observed
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Executive summary:

Flammable properties upon contact with water were assessed according to EU method A.12 (Huntingdon, ECHA RSS, 2017). No reaction was observed upon contact of the test substance with water.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study without detailed documentation
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.13 (Pyrophoric Properties of Solids and Liquids)
GLP compliance:
yes
Key result
Test procedure:
ignition time on contact with air
Remarks on result:
no ignition on contact with air (not further specified)
Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test substance is regarded as non pyrophoric.
Executive summary:

Pyrophoric properties of the test substance were assessed in accordance with EU method A.13 (Huntingdon, ECHA RSS, 2017). The test substance did not show any ignition on contact with air.

Description of key information

The substance is not considered as flammable, flammable in contact with water, pyrophoric and self-heating substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

In accordance with Article 25(3) of the REACH Regulation the robust study summaries submitted 12 years previously, are used for the purpose of the registration.

In a study according to EU method A.10, the test substance did not show flammable properties (Huntingdon, ECHA RSS, 2017). No pyrophoric properties were observed in a study according to EU method A.13 (Huntingdon, ECHA RSS, 2017). No water reactive properties were observed in a study according to EU method A.12 (Huntingdon, ECHA RSS, 2017).

The test substance is not regarded as self heating. No self ignition up to the melting point was observed in the auto flammability study according to EU method A.16 (refer to IUCLID section 4.12).

Justification for classification or non-classification

In accordance with Annex I, Section 2.1, Section 2.2, Section 2.3, Section 2.7, Section 2.9, Section 2.10 Section 2.11, Section 2.12 of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 and UN GHS Rev 7 (2017) the substance has not to be classified as readily combustible solid in class 4 Division 4.1, self-heating substance in Class 4 Division 4.2, substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases in Class 4 Division 4.3, pyrophoric liquid, pyrophoric solid in class 4 Division 4.2, flammable gases in class 2 or as aerosol in class 2.
