Endpoint:
partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
supporting study
Study period:
14 Apr 2014
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test: Solubility in n-octanol is determined visually.
- Method
 Prepare sample solutions of 1 and 10mg sample / liter n-octanol in volumetric flaks with stoppers
 Add a magnetic stirring element to both volumetric flasks
 Place both flasks under stirring in a temperature controlled heating bath at 30°C for at least 72h
 After 72h, place both flasks under stirring in a temperature controlled heating bath at 20 ± 0.5°C for at least 24h
 Visually verify for undissolved particles
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
flask method
Partition coefficient type:
octanol-water
Specific details on test material used for the study:
C.I. Pigment Red 81:5 (CAS 63022-06-0)

Remarks:
N-octanol solubility <1 mg/L and water solubility <1 mg/L therefore estimate only provided.
Details on results:
n-octanol solubility was found to be < 1mg/L, with some particles being still undissolved.
Conclusions:
Water - octanol solubility was found to be less than 1mg/L. Hence, it is not possible to detemine the partition coefficient and estimate only provided.

Remarks on result:
other:
Remarks:
N-octanol <0.1 mg/L and water solubility<0.1mg/L therefore estimate only provided
Details on results:
The test item n-octanol solubility is < 0.1mg/L and water solubility is <0.1 mg/L therefore the log Pow could not be accurately determined, estimate only provided.
Conclusions:
The test item n-octanol solubility is < 0.1 mg/L and water solubility is <0.1 mg/L therefore the log Pow estimate only provided as log Pow = 1.

Description of key information

The 1-octanol solubility of pigment sample 8135N batch 021340 (C.I. Pigment Red 81:5) was determined to be <0.1mg/L and water solubility was determined as <0.1 mg/L. Therefore the partition coefficient estimate was only provided as log Pow = 1.
