Description of key information

The dynamic viscosity of Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride, oligomeric reaction products with urea was determined at 20°C and 40°C according to the OECD TG 114 using a rotating cylinder viscosimeter. The dynamic viscosity of test material was measured for shear rates from about 5 s-1to 20 s-1at 20 °C and from about 10 s-1to 140 s-1at 40 °C. The viscosity values varied with the shear rate, e.g. at 20 °C from 4.06 * 105mPa·s at 4.9 s-1 to 3.69 * 105mPa·s at 20 s-1 and at 40 °C from 6.53 * 104mPa·s at 9.93 s-1 to 5.18 * 104mPa·s at 140 s-1. This indicates that Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride, oligomeric reaction products with urea is a non-Newtonian fluid. The arithmetic mean (3.88 x 10^5 mPa.s) of the range value measured at 20°C is taken as key value for the chemical safety assessment.

Additional information

Based on the measurement of the dynamic viscosity on a similar compound, the registered reaction product has to be considered as a non Newtonian fluid.
