Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The particle size distribution of lithium 12 -hydroxystearate gives a D10 of 1.1 µm, a D50 of 4.9 µm and a D90 of 31.5 µm. Fatty acids C16 -18 lithium salts gives a D10 of 6.4 µm, a D50 of 33.8 µm and a D90 of 91.8 µm.

Additional information

The substances in the lithium salts of monocarboxylic acids C14-C22 category are marketed or used in non-solid or granular forms. The main use of the substances is as viscosity regulators for grease lubricants, a use for which they are marketed and used in base oil. Lithium 12-hydroxystearate and fatty acids C16-C18 lithium salts are sometimes marketed in isolated form (i.e. not in base oil) in addition to being marketed in base oil and particle size distribution data are provided for these two substances. The particle size distributions of lithium 12-hydroxystearate and fatty acids C16-C18 lithium salts have been taken from proprietary data (Baerlocher 2011).
