- Technical Guidance Document on the Information Requirements for REACH, Part 2 EWG 1-7, REACH Implementation Project (RIP) 3.3 Phase 2, chapter 7.1.11.3 Analysis of the chemical structure revealed no alerts for explosive properties. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is above the trigger value of -200 and the determination of the exothermic decomposition energy demonstrated an energy release above the critical value of 500 J/g. Additonal tests on explosibility revealed no risk for deflagration. The production of partly flammable gases have been observed upon chemical substance decomposition. Based on these results the substance is considered to be non-explosive according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing is required.

Screening evaluation
Analysis of the molecular structure of FAT 20077/D TE revealed, that no such chemical alert structures are present in the molecule.
Calculation of the oxygen balance according to the above mentioned formula is -188.98 and therefore slightly higher than the trigger value of -200.
Determination of the exothermic decomposition energy
In order to assess if the substance Acid Blue 239 possesses the potential to rapidly release huge amounts of energy a thermal analysis (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) has been performed at the Analytical Department Huntsman Textile Effects (Germany) GmbH. The results of the measurement are shown in Annex 1.
The curve displays one exothermic peaks up to 350 °C with a total energy release of about 548.31 J/g. As a result, the overall energy release is slightly above a critical trigger level of 500 J/g and the onset of energy release is below 500 °C.
Data availability for related sales products
For one of the related sales products containing approximately 55 % of the crude dye (Lanaset Blau 5G) additional data are available. For this product the following tests have been conducted:
- Exothermic decomposition test (Lütolf test)
- Spontaneous decomposition (deflagration)
- Decomposition test dynamic (Grewer air)
As a result of these tests spontaneous decomposition could be excluded based on thermic decomposition behavior. The Grewer air test revealed a production of less than 5 liters of gas/kg test substance including the presence of flammable gases (tested at a temperature of 220 °C).

FAT 20077/D TE was considered to be non-explosive, hence does not warrant classification according to the criteria of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
