Description of key information

The distribution of sulfur dioxide between aqueous solutions and air can be estimated from water solubility and vapour pressure. Using a solubility of 114.5 g/l and a vapour pressure of 3271 hPa (20°C), a Henry’s law constant of 183 Pa.m3/mol can be calculated. This value indicates a rapid volatilization from aqueous solution according to the criteria of Thomas (1982).
