Executive summary:

The determination of the flash point of tert-Butylperoxy-3,5,5-trimethylhexanoat was performed according to ISO 3679 (closed cup). The "SETAFLASH" equipment was used.

A flash point of 94°C at 1013.25 hPa was determined for tert-Butylperoxy-3,5,5-trimethylhexanoat.

Justification for data waiving:
The study does not need to be conducted because the flash point for liquid organic peroxides is only relevant in the temperature range where the product is thermally stable. Above the SADT (self-accelerating decomposition temperature) of the product flash point determination is not relevant because decomposition products are evolved

Description of key information

The Self-Accelerating Decomposition Temperature (SADT) of tert-butyl 3,5,5-trimethylperoxyhexanoate (TBPIN) was determined to be 60 °C (see study in IUCLID section 4.23). It is therefore expected that the substance will be decomposed before the flash point is reached (CLP regulations 2.15.2.3 and UN Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th revised edition, sub-sections 28.1, 28.2, 28.3 and Table 28.3 and ECHA guidance on the application of the CLP criteria, section 2.14). Thus, a study that determines the flash point is not required.
