Description of key information

As stated in the REACH Guidance R7a, β€œFor the majority of substances, explosivity is not a concern and testing can be waived based on a consideration of the structure. Gases do not need to be tested and liquids do not need to be tested for sensitivity towards friction.”

2,6-DTBP does not contain any of the functional groups associated with explosivity.  In addition the oxygen balance is <-200.  Industry experience during production, handling and use does not give any indication of explosive properties.

A test for explosivity is therefore not considered necessary.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

2,6-DTBP does not contain any of the functional groups associated with explosivity. In addition the oxygen balance is <-200. Industry experience during production, handling and use does not give any indication of explosive properties.

In accordance with Directive 67/548/EEC and EU CLP (Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008), classification for explosiveness is not required.
