In order to describe the time dependence of the surface tension after transferring the solution to the measurement vessel, repeated measurements were carried out with increasing the equilibrium time. A constant surface tension was reached after about 120 sec (see Table 1below).

The surface tension of 4,4-Diaminodiphenylether aqueous solution read on the instrument was 72.5 mN/m atusing the ring method representing the mean of five separate measurements. The equilibrium time for these five measurements was in a range of 120 - 130 sec. The details are shown in Table 2below.

The measured surface tension was multiplied by the correction factor and then corrected according to Harkins and Jordan, resulting in a corrected surface tension of 72.6 mN/m.

Conclusions:
As the surface tension value was higher than 60 mN/m, 4,4-Diaminodiphenylether is not classified as surface active.
Executive summary:

As the surface tension value washigher than 60 mN/m,4,4-Diaminodiphenylether is not classified as surface active.

Description of key information

The surface tension of the test item was determined using the OECD guideline 115 under GLP conditions.

The result obtained was 72.5 mN/m at 20°C.

As the surface tension value was higher than 60 mN/m, 4,4-Diaminodiphenylether is not considered as surface active.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
