Use of Allantoin does not include direct application to the soil and an indirect exposure to soil via sewage sludge transfer is unlikely since the substance is readily biodegradable. For a substance being considered as readily biodegradable, it can be assumed that it will be biodegraded within the STP process and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected. Furthermore, the log KOw is below 3 and the substance indicates a low adsorption potential. Therefore, binding to sewage sludge is unlikely and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected. Tests on terrestrial organisms are considered as unnecessary. So terrestrial toxicity endpoints were waived according to REACH Annex IX Section 9.4 Column 2 because direct and indirect exposure to soil compartment is unlikely.
