Additional information

Acute aquatic toxicity data were available for all three tropic levels: fish, invertebrates and algae. No adverse effects were observed in any of the available acute limit tests with LC50 > 5000 mg/L, EC50 > 100 mg/L and EC50 > 100 mg/L respectively.

Allantoin is biodegradable and has a low Log KOW of -2.26 so long term exposure to or bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms is not expected. Based on microbial toxicity limit test (OECD Guideline 209), no toxicity to microorganisms was observed at the study concentration of 1000 mg/L. Therefore, the NOEC for microorganisms is > 1000 mg/L.
