PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Persistence Assessment

Evidence of ready biodegradation: read-across approach from the analogue substance Sodium Acetate:test results shows that the substance is readily biodegradable. The biodegradability was determined with a non adapted activated sludge for Sodium Acetate over a test period of 28 days in the DOC-Die-Away test. At 7 days, the biodegradation reached the 86% and at 28 days the biodegradation reached the 99%.

The substance is not fulfilling the criteria for Persistence (P)

Bioaccumulation Assessment

The log Kow value of the substance is lower than 4,5(calculated log Pow of the substance is -1.38 (EPI-Suite, EPA USA / KOWWIN v1.67).

Calculated data:The estimated bioaccumulation factorfor Calcium Acetateis 3.162. Estimated data by BCFWIN v3.00 model of EPI Suite (EPA, US). The Log BCF from regression-based method is 0.500. The log Pow used is -1.38 (estimated).

The substance is not fulfilling the criteria for Bioaccumulation (B)

Toxicity Assessment

Short-term toxicity to fish:

Weight of evidence: Read-across from experimental results on the analogues substances Sodium Acetate and Potassium Acetate. The 96h-LC50 for Calcium acetate is calculated to be between: > 96.45 - > 402.92 mg/L.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

Weight of evidence: Read-across from experimental results obtained with the analogue substances Potassium acetate and Sodium acetate. The 48h-EC50 for Calcium acetate is calculated to be between: > 370.28 mg/L - > 964.09 mg/L (basis for effect: mobility).

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria:

Key study: Read-across from experimental results obtained with the category analogue Potassium acetate. Study according to ISO guideline and GLP compliance. The 72h- EC50 value for Calcium Acetate is calculated to be > 402.92 mg/L with Skeletonema costatum. The NOEC value was estimated to be 402.92 mg/L

The substance is not fulfilling the criteria for Toxicity (T)
