Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Eyes: Wash out thoroughly with water or saline solution. Seek medical attention if necessary.
Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water Seek medical advice if irritation persists.
Inhalation: Remove from exposure and place in fresh air. Get medical aid if cough or other symptoms appear.
Ingestion: If confined to the mouth area give large quantities of water as a mouthwash, ensure the water is not swallowed. If substance has been swallowed, give 250ml of water to dilute in stomach. In severe cases seek medical attention.
Fire-fighting measures
Material is not readily combustible.
Emits toxic fumes under fire conditions.
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.
Use extinguishing media appropriate to the surrounding fire conditions (water, foam, CO2, or dry chemical).
Accidental release measures
Wear appropriate protective clothing, to avoid contact with skin and eyes, and inhalation of dust.
Clear up spillage, wash affected area with large quantities of water.
Handling and storage
Handling:
Do not breathe dust.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Wash thoroughly after using.
Occupational exposure limits for dust should be adhered to, this to include the use of local extraction systems.
Storage:
Keep cool and dry, in tightly closed container.

Exposure controls / personal protection
Ensure easy access to shower and eyewash equipment near all work areas.
Personal protective measures as appropriate to quantity used.
Ventilation: Extraction system / hood.
Hand Protection: Rubber or plastic.
Eye protection: Goggles or face shield.
Other measures: Chemical suit, boots – if handling large quantities.
Stability and reactivity
Conditions to avoid:
Excessive heat.
Materials to avoid:
Avoid contact with strong oxidising agents.
Mixtures with potassium nitrate may explode.
Hazardous decomposition products:
Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, toxic fumes of calcium oxide.
Disposal considerations
Disposal should be in accordance with local or state or national legislation.
Do not dispose of with oxidisers.
