Description of key information

Structurally similar amides, C18-18 (even numbered) and C18-unsatd., N-(hydroxyethyl) is not highly flammable (Frączak M and Chmielewska A, 2010).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Flammability was determined according to EU Method A.10.

Justification for classification or non-classification

A study in accordance with EU method A.10 was conducted to determine the flammability. amides, C8-18 and C18-unsatd., N-(hydroxyethyl) did not ignite from the flame of the burner instead it was found to be melting in the formed path. In conclusion based on read-across amides, C12-18 (even-numbered) and C18-unsatd., N-(hydroxyethyl) does not meet the criteria for classification as flammable according to EC (67/548/EEC) and CLP (EC 1272/2008) criteria.
