Description of key information

Salt reaction of cobalt(2+) and C3/C10 carboxylates does not contain any chemical structure associated with explosive properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

Salt reaction of cobalt(2+) and C3/C10 carboxylates does not contain any chemical structure associated with explosive properties, such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides. Furthermore, a differential scanning calorimetric analysis (DSC, OECD 113) under nitrogen was conducted for Neodecanoic acid, cobalt salt and can also be used as a screening for the determination of explosive properties of Salt reaction of cobalt(2+) and C3/C10 carboxylates. This DSC-measurement in a closed glass crucible showed no exothermal effects in the temperature range 25 – 450 °C.. Since the decomposition energy is below 500 J/g a main test for explosive properties is unnecessary (Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods / Manual of Tests and Criteria (ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.3), page 398) (cf. regulation (EC) 1907/2006, Annex VII, section 7.11, Column 2).
