Salt reaction of cobalt(2+) and C3/C10 carboxylates will be classified as skin sensitiser according to section 3.4, annex I of Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 based on animal and human data from analogue cobalt compounds with similar bioaccessibility in artificial perspiration. Salt reaction of cobalt(2+) and C3/C10 carboxylates will be classified as skin sensitiser category 1A (H317). Thus further testing is not required, according to section 1.1.3 and 1.2, annex XI of Regulation (EC) 1907/2006.

Justification for selection of skin sensitisation endpoint:
Several studies show that some cobalt compounds have skin sensitiser properties. As salt reaction of cobalt(2+) and C3/C10 carboxylates bioaccessibility seems high, it’s proposed to consider this salt as skin sensitiser without further testing.
