Reference
Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
20 May 2015
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Principle of test: Melting point is determined by the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in which the difference in the amount of heat required to increase the temperature of a sample and reference is measured as a function of temperature.
- Method:
 Fill a DSC pan with ± 1 to 5mg sample and record the sample weight
 Close the DSC sample pan with a pan cover using a pan press
 Place the sample pan into the sample position of the DSC
 Prepare an empty reference pan and place it into the reference position of the DSC
 Start the analysis
- Short description of test conditions:
1: Sampling interval 0.10 sec/pt
2: Equilibrate at 40.00°C
3: Isothermal for 5.00 min
4: Ramp 5.00°C/min to 350.00°C
5: End of method
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry

SOURCE OF TEST MATERIAL
- Source and lot/batch No.of test material: 8135N/ lot: 021340
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
> 350 °C
Conclusions:
No melting point or other phase transitions are observed before 350°C. Melting point is etimated to be greater than 350°C. The test item shows exothermal decomposition starting around 225°C.

Description of key information

Melting point of C.I. Pigment Red 81:5 was determined by the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). No melting point or other phase transitions are observed before 350°C. The test item shows exothermal decomposition starting around 225°C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
350 °C
