Conclusion on classification

Trimethoxyphenylsilane is expected to hydrolyse rapidly (DT50 = 0.4 hours at 25°C) and the silanol hydrolysis product is not readily biodegradable. Trimethoxyphenylsilane is not classified for the environment in the EU according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 because good quality data for the analogue substance, trichloro(phenyl)silane (98-13-5), have been read across. Both the target and source substances share the same silanol hydrolysis product, phenylsilanetriol. The other, alcohol hydrolysis products are methanol (target) and hydrochloric acid (source), respectively. Methanol and hydrochloric acid are not expected to be hazardous at concentrations relevant to aquatic toxicity studies.

Experimental results indicate that the silanol hydrolysis product is not hazardous up to a concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal).
