Conclusion on classification

Trimethoxyphenylsilane is expected to hydrolyse rapidly (measured half-life 0.4 hours at 25°C) and the silanol hydrolysis product is not readily biodegradable. Trimethoxyphenylsilane is not classified for the environment in the EU according to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 becausegood quality data for the analogue substance, trichloro(phenyl)silane (98-13-5), have been read across. Both substances share the same silanol hydrolysis product, phenylsilanetriol; the other hydrolysis products being methanol and hydrochloric acid, respectively,methanol and hydrochloric acid expected to be not hazardous at the concentrations relevant to the study.

Additionally, supporting QSAR data for the silanol hydrolysis product indicate that it is not toxic up to a concentration of 100 mg/l, i.e. lowest E(L)C50 is >100 mg/l.
