Description of key information

flammable liquid
no pyrophoricity
no flammability in contact with water

not self heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

Based on flash point and boiling point the substance is a flammable liquid.
Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability in contact with water are not expected.

The substance is a liquid, and as such, does not show self-heating behaviour if it is not absorbed on a large surface.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on the flash point and the boiling point of the test substance do meet the criteria for classification as a flammable liquid according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008: In reliable studies two different flash points of 94.3°C and 50°C were reported. Presumably the flash point decreases with an increase of the low boiling impurities, like methanol, a hydrolysis product of the substance. For safety reasons the substance has to be classified as flammable liquid cat. 3 (H226) unless the measured flash point of the individual product is > 60°C.

The available data on pyrophoricity and flammability in contact with water of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification: Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use pyrophoricity and flammability in contact with water are not expected.
