Description of key information

Under the study conditions, the NOEC relating to mortality, change in biomass, behaviour and reproductive capacity for test substance was found to be 171.5 mg a.i./kg soil dry weight.

A study was conducted to determine the effect of the test substance on the survival, growth and reproductive capacity of adults earthworms, Eisenia andrei (Oligochaeta: Lumbricidae), according to OECD Guideline 222, in accordance with GLP. Following an initial range finding bioassay, the test substance was evaluated at concentrations of 0, 95.3, 171.5, 308.6, 555.6 and 1,000 mg a.i./kg soil dry weight (treatments being made on the basis of the measured content of a.i.). The test substance variants were compared with a control treatment of acetone (added to sand aliquots) and an untreated control. Test substance did not result in significant mortality and had no apparent detrimental effects on the condition or behaviour of adult earthworms, at treatment rates up to and including the maximum tested, i.e. 1,000 mg a.i./kg soil dry weight. Test substance treatments up to and including 555.6 mg a.i./kg soil did not have any significant effects on the change in biomass of the earthworms. The test substance had no statistically significant effects on the reproductive capacity of the confined worms at concentrations up to and including 171.5 mg a.i./kg soil dry weight. Under the study conditions, the NOEC relating to mortality, change in biomass, behaviour and reproductive capacity for test substance was found to be 171.5 mg a.i./kg soil dry weight (McCormac A, 2014).
