Description of key information

Additional information

Two acute toxicity tests to plants are available, both conducted with sorbic acid. One was conducted as a limit tests, the second one was a dose-response test. Only phytotoxic effects were observed in the limit test at the only test concentration of 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight. In the dose-response test, effects on biomass gain as the most sensitive endpoint were observed resulting in an 21 -day EC50 of 65.3 mg/kg soil dry weight for allium cepa as the most sensitive species. In the evaluation process under the Biocides Product Directive 98/8/EEC, the rapporteur member state Germany converted this value to the corresponding one for potassium sorbate, resulting in an EC50 of 83.6 mg/kg for the biomass gain of allium cepa.

Also a long-term study on plants is available. Here, no effects could be shown on any of the relevant endpoints up to the highest test concentration of 100 mg/kg soil dry weight which is regarded to be the NOEC.
