Description of key information

For HFC-134a and HFC-245fa, reliable experimental octanol-water partition coefficients are available, with LogKow values 1.06 and 1.35, respectively. Based on structural considerations, including the results from EPISuite and VCCLab estimations, it can be argued that the octanol-water partition coefficient of HFC 143a will be lower than the octanol-water partition coefficient of HFC-245fa, and comparable to that of HFC-134a.  Comparison of the experimental values for HFC-134a and HFC-245fa with the EPISuite and VCCLab estimations also confirms that available QSARs or models for these substances tend to over-predict the octanol-water partition coefficient.  As such, a value for Log Kow of 1.06 (being the experimentally determined Log Kow of HFC-134a) to be used for HFC 143a is justified.
