In the atmosphere, the thiocyanate salts are not likely to be degraded by reaction with hydroxyl and ozone radicals.
rates for the thiocyanates were calculated with the Atmospheric
Oxidation Programme (AOPWIN v1.92a) based on structure activity
relationships developed by Atkinson (1987). With a concentration of
500,000 OH-radicals/cm3, hydroxyl degradation rate constant of 0.000000
E-12 cm3/molecule-sec was
calculated, and a
degradation half-life of for the 3 thiocyanates could not be calculated.
Because of the absence of acetylene and olefin structures in the
molecules, reaction with ozone could not be estimated.
